Lenise Lane said... I think imperialism was a theme towards the end because some of the countries were trying to build empires instead of just sticking to nationalism.
I agree with Natasha Becker because Nationalism was a one of the causes of World War I.
Alliances, because it was a cause and resolution of World War I.
I agree with Natasha and Lenise because nationalism was a problem but then a lot of countries turned to imperialism to try and help their country. -Chelsea McMurry-
I believe that alliances was more of a cause of World War I because the alliances were loose and it took a small agitation to cause an alliance to split.
I agree with Chelsea, Lenise, and Natasha on the nationalism problem because lets just face it, if your not together than your fighting each other, but if you are, than your fighting better and together to achieve a common cause even if that cause is completely destroying another country.
During this time period, you see women wearing shorter, more revealing clothing, most start smoking. Also, women started working in a male-dominant jobs, such as govermental work. They're rights were changed drastically because, since the men are at war, and getting killed.. the women figured out that they could take charge and do whatever they want to because the men aren't there to tell them what to do.
An important issue that has to do with this chapter is the home life I think. Because everybody was so supportive of their countries position in this war. Also the role of women in this time period as well. They became a bigger part in the workforce and took less domestic jobs as well.
I agree with Natasha about nationalism. With nationalism, came a lot of people in each county fighting for their country. Although some were against the war, majority of the others thought that other countries were in the wronge for attacking them and that they should protect themselves. This war brought people of each country together to fight to their county.
In addition, i think that industrialization was also one of the themes. In WWI, many useful inventions and weapons fell in the hands of soldiers and many of them were improved during the war as well. For example, the tank was invented during this time. The Mark1 tank(first tank) held 6 people, drove at 3mph and could be as hot as 100 degrees inside. The Mark2 (second tank) was 2 times faster and wasn't as hot inside.
In agreement with just about everybody, nationalism was definitely one of the major themes. I also agree with Amber: I think Industrialization played a major role during the events of this unit. The inventions of machine guns, tanks, chemical warfare and others like grenades and the like were results of increasing industrial advancement. Finally, I think another theme was social equality among the people. During and after the war the dividing line between the classes was becoming more and more indistinct. People came together and felt more united as a whole.
I agree with everybody who said that alliances are a main point in this unit. The alliances that led up to WWI influenced a lot of the things that happened before and after the war.
I think that alliances were an important theme in this unit because if alliances never happened behind peoples backs then there would only be two countries going to war instead of like eight.
In this unit the them that was most talked about was nationalism. Different countries were using their own way of building nationalism. I thnk the reason for this is, because they learned that with nationalism they are able to get more done.
I agree also with the people that said imperialism was one of the them. You will see that most of the western world was going to other countries, such as Africa and Asia, for industrialization needs.
I think the main issues were alliances, along with the emergence of new countries. I also believe a main focus was advance in technology. New weaponry came about in WWI, and countries strived to come out with the newest and most effective advances.
I agree with Natasha. Nationalism had always played an important role in countries' motivations and decisions.
At the end of WWI, the Treaty of Versailles had shaken the alliances between the U.S., Great Britain, and France. This foreshadowed another uprising from Germany. so in all, major themes in the war were alliances, nationalism, and a splash of socialism.
I agree with everyone who mentioned the alliances between nations.
I believe that some of the themes that run through this unit are what nationalism did to for people along with imperialism. Plus WWI and its effects on war and others. The treaties also had an effect on some nations especially Germany, Austria, and Russia (USSR).
A major theme that runs throughout the entire WWI unit would have to be the econimic changes. For example, the industry had to change their original products to weapons of war, and doing this, this caused a lot of money and led to the consequences we see throughout it.
I know this is late, but oh well. The most important theme that runs throughout this unit is nationalism, because it was growing and it was one of the major causes of the war. I also agree with Ryan Flake who said that the advancement of technologies and economic changes were important as well.
one of the main causes of the war was due to the use of alliances and the fact that you could never really trust another country too much as shown with germany and the soviet union. The issue with trust definately was a major theme with this unit.
I also agree with david dean when he said that technology was a major theme of this unit because at this time in history technology was really revolutionizing and changing for better and for worse. (Fatima castro)
I believe that nationalism and technology were important themes in the way the war started and was carried out. Without these the war may have had a slightly lesser impact.
I agree with David Dean because technology was on the rise and used experimentally at times but the destruction and casulties were great.
Amanda Chamberlain i think alliances because throughout the war that is what was the most significant. Without certain countries being on certain sides the entire outcome would have been completely different.
nationalism above all because each minority wanted to advocate their own culture and expand to impose their ideals on other people which also feeds into imperialism
i agree with all of those who mentioned nationalism. nationalism was, in a way, used many times to promote the country as the "good guy" and create pride so that more people were dedicated to their nation or alliances
God...I don't even remember what that test was about, but nationalism, it would seem. And Alliances too, I guess?
Both would be important themes, (if that even be the case) because...well, the alliances are for an obvious reason. WWI, anyone?
Nationalism creates problems no matter what, not saying that nationalism is a bad thing, but look at the problems it has caused. (I also think ethnic pride ties into the issues as well.)
Nationalism, because it caused a lot of problems in all the countries.

Nationalism-people wanted to stand up for their country
ReplyDeletegovernment- the ideas on how the country should have been run were changing
I agree with Chelsea alliances were a big part of the unit. This is how the war started and also how the war was fought.
ReplyDeleteTechnology was also a huge part in the unit with technology oon the rise new weapons were being made which meant more destructionn and deaths.
