How did the alliances of World War II alter Europe for more than 40 years?

37 comments:

  1. Alliances had a great impact on Europe during and after World War II for several reasons. One, they set the paths for the war in the first place. Outcomes may have been different if the alliances were different themselves. Secondly, land was both attained and lost through alliances. In example, Germany was able to conquer Europe almost entirely, but had at first left Italy alone due to the alliance between Mussolini and Hitler (as we saw on that cool powerpoint thing, haha).

Over the course of fourty years, Europe transformed. New technology was invented and progressed, and I'm sure that there was help from allies (even if only minimally). I've never looked at the transofrmations of Europe stemming from alliances, but they do. Countries are made stronger, and some weaker.

  2. I agree with Tammy about the alliances being able to change the outcome of the war and it setting the paths for the war itself.

Through the alliance with Russia, Germany was able to make munitions even though they weren't allowed to. Italy was able to get some more power by being allies with Germany. When the war ended all of Germany's allies(were allies at the end not the begining) got punished for being friends with Germany. The alliances of WWII also had some contribution to the making of The United Nations which is still working out today.

  3. I agree with Tamara and Chris. I also agree with the comment on the United Nations.

I believe it changed the view on how we view every other state; For example, Germany. we can never look at that state again and see it as very friendly place. We can also see it as a gullable state when knocked down. Another exapmle is france. Their little take over and as well as their history makes them look like a bunch of Greedy, egotistical, snobs.

I agree with Tamara on how land and power was shifted.

  5. i think the alliances really did affect the wars outcome. Like how germany allied with russia and russia supported them with weapons and backed them up then germany turned on them.If russia was not allied with germany it might not have gotten so strong.

  6. I can say it altered the country boundries quite a bit. But when the allies came together, they reconquered most of their land back.

I aslo agree with Tamara on her opinion about power shifts.

    i found my book too.

  7. Alliances had a major effect when ur country went to war because if u had no alliances then u were all alone and there would be nobody to support you

I agree with Davon on how germany allied with russia and back stabbed them.

  8. Alliances altered Europe's view points on many countries, whether good or bad. Germany was no longer the poor uderdog in Europe. Italy was trying to become one of the major powers also.

And i agree with Danny. The boundaries of some countries changed. When this happened more countries came together to stop it from happening any further and to also regain their land back.

  9. I think the alliances altered Europe because they stayed strong. Germany conquered almost all of Europe but then the alliances were able to conquer all of it back.

I agree with Tamara. The alliances had everything to do with the outcome of the war.

  10. I think the alliances helped set Europe up for future wars. It also created new countries and got rid of some others. It created hostility towards the Germans that took a long time to fade.

I agree with Tami about the alliances having everything to do with the outcome of the war.

  11. Well basically, everything was said.

I agree with tamera on the shifts of power.
I also agree with the fact that if Germany wasn't originally allied with Russia, they never would have gotten so powerful.
Also, I agree that if Germany wouldn't have backstabed Russia and they had them helping Germany throughtout the whole war, the outcome of the war would have been 100% different.

  12. Man, everyone took my answer..
so im going to break it down a bit.

Ok. Basically alliances gave countries in Europe protection and power for awhile, UNTIL someone betrays it and messes up the whole thing.(Hitler)

  13. Alliances effected Europe because after the war ended some countries still saw other countries who were against them as enemies and didn't trust them. After many years they still don't trust them which can end up starting more wars.
I agree with Tamara about the alliances causing the war, which took years to clean up.

  14. I agree with Davon and Tamara.

Davon is right because if Russia didn't back up Germany, Germany may not have had as many supplies has they did. For example, Germany was never able to get completely back because in the end, they didn't have anymore supplies because they never excepted for there to be a major war in the end.

  15. I agree with everyone that said, the alliances helped with the outcome of the war. With the alliances the lands in Europe changed a lot. At one point Germany had almost all of Europe under it's rule. And Russia took it back as means of pay back.

  16. I pretty much agree with everyone has said so far. Alliances were a way to have temporary security. The alliances gave some countries live Germany power because they had some of the major European powers on their side. And when the time comes they will break the alliance and invade someone. All they did was either strengthen bonds between countries or left them bitter against each other. Either way, alliances caused everyone to be cautious of everyone else's actions.

  17. I agree with cedric about how the alliances gave protection to certain countries. But that betrayals led to the switching of Russia to the other side and the eventual downfall of Italy and Germany in the war.

I also think that after the war they were able to focus on other more important "technical advances" such as the polio vaccine and such

  18. I think that because the alliances were strong and had a lot of power they were able to effectevery part of Europe. Political, social, and especially economic factors changed. After the war they spent most of those thirty years rebuilding europe in its entirety.

I agree with stephanie about how they focused on other things such as their technical advances.

  19. Hey Cedric it is asking you how the alliance changed Europe, not just a few countries and i think that yeah it lead to the UN, but i also think that it lead to a worldwide mistrust between the West and the East side of Europe. Just like how France always had problems with Germany that is still continuing now.

I agree with Rosa with Germany taking over just about the whole Europe and how the other alliances came together to get it back

I believe that the U.S. held the strongest alliance because they were there when they were needed and just about ended the war so without us they probably could of never settled it.

  21. I agree with Stephanie R. and Rosa.

The rest of Europe came together to get their land back from Germany. The U.S. played a major role in Europe's alliances.

  22. Alliances in europe is the reason for the good times and bad times there. Alliances created two world wars and a depression. but it also gave countries like germany extreme power. The wars caused land to be distributed in diffrent ways and trust to be lost.

i also agree with danny with countries boundaries

    i agree with

  23. Wow I'm late, sorry x[

I think that the alliances of WWII altered Europe for more than 40 years because it caused many countries to lose trust with one another, for example how the United States held back on telling Russia about are Atom-Bomb
and I also agree with Xavier on how the two sides of Europe losing trust with one another.

  24. in WW2 alliances played a extreme role in battle and the success of the aliied powers. if 2 certain events didnt happen then germany most likely would have won and the allies would have lost. the first thing was germany's fault. if germany wouldnt have turned on russia they most likely would have gained a lot of power. like said above the alliance with russia was a way of making germany stronger. secondly another reason germany lost is the bombing of pearl harbor. this event brought the us over seas into the war and a long with russia joining the allies balanced out the fight between the growing germany and great britan.

  25. The alliances altered Europe for over 40 years because through these alliances many things were lost and gained such as land, and even dignity.

I agree with Jake because Germany and Russian were great examples of how alliances could go wrong.

  26. I agree with Tamara that the alliances set the paths for the war in the first place. Also, depending on certain alliances, some countries lost trust in each other and thought of each other as extreme enemies and increased tension.

  27. Alliances of World War II altered Europe for more than 40 years because so many alliances were made and also changed. The war was effected by the alliances because the outcome of the war could be changed at any time. For example if the Soviet Union hadn't turned there back on Germany then the war could have been dominated by Germany and the Soviet Union because Germany took over alot of countries by itself. Also when the Soviet Union fought off Germany by themselves. So that makes both of the countries strong.

I agree with Tamara because outcomes may have been different if the alliances were different themselves. As I said in the previous paragraph.

  28. The alliances between contries altered europe by how each country wished to be protected and how the contries they were united with would back them if needed. All of the alliances at some point had gained territory and other things. They changed europe for how countries felt uneasy about other powers.

I agree with Brandi Hamer because the way the alliances were and with others turning against each other during the war, it could have had a totally different outcome if countries backed each other, other than turning on them

i also agree with tamara that if alliances had been different the outcome would have been different. The end of the war affect europe for so long because it was a way between each other in the same place. They are all neighboring countries and not every disagreement is goin to end because the war ended.

  31. in a way i agree with raven because the countries did come together...in this conglomerate called the Treaty of Versailles where germany was picked apart by just about all of the european countries

    ReplyDelete
  32. i missed thios but im making it up now

i agree with tamara because if the alliances changed in structure the outcome would of been altered and history would of been different from there on out changing the world as we know it

  33. many nations were either too much in debt or had acquired a lot or territory through this war, but many trusts that were put into some alliances were broken during the war so nations leaders learned not to trust one another

    ReplyDelete
  34. the alliances alterd europe because land was gained and got taken away from people, which many people said.
i agree with jazmin debt was a big deal.

uhhhh, ok, so no one was really going to even try to answer the question?

the question suggested that we should talk about what happened AFTER world war 2 for 40 years and how that effected Europe, not how the outcome of the war could have been different due to different alliances that never happened so it doesn't matter anyways....

BUT, if i were to try and answer this question i would say that it caused A LOT of mistrust in Europe for all those 40 years and is still on going and the trension between those countries still remains and they might still have hostile of agresive deffensiveness against each other, specicaly against Russia and Germany...

    ReplyDelete
  36. wow... i really had a lot of typing errors in that last comment Mrs. Dawson, i really hope you can figure them out... trensions ir supposed to be tensions, and it should be hostile OR not hostile OF, and it should be specificaly not specicaly...

  37. Yesss~ WWII. I actually know something about this. It's amazing what Japanese cartoon can teach a person about World War II~ <3

The main alliances were the Allies and Axis Powers? I suppose there were more or something, but I only know much about the two I mentioned...

I agree with Ryan (two posts above mine) about the mistrust thing. It also caused prejudices, perhaps? Like, England or France would see Italy as being...'bad' for joining up with Germany? (Do I even know what I'm talking about?)

I don't know much about the economic side of this. It seems that all the countries suffered debt no matter who they were with, but I suppose the Allies had it better off (but they still had it rough) since Germany couldn't exactly support it's ally, Italy...

(I'm sort of afraid that what I said is so inaccurate and made no sense...)
